Este Artigo situa o modelo de Organização Social - OS, dentro do arcabouço jurídico brasileiro, bem como analisa a evolução do modelo de gestão, passados 21 anos desde sua criação. O modelo foi estruturado visando atender diversas áreas de interesse público, tais como educação, saúde e cultura, porém, o presente artigo foca no papel das OS enquanto indutora do processo de transformação de Pesquisa Acadêmica em Inovação Industrial. O artigo traz à baila diversos instrumentos e postulados jurídicos que dão sustentação legal ao modelo de gestão das OS, questões históricas em relação a criação e consolidação do mesmo, discorre sobre os rumos que o modelo deverá tomar, nos próximos anos e analisa o caso específico da EMBRAPII.
