Abstract

The present work proposes to revisit an experiment carried out by Biondo (1994), which sought to understand the necessary and sufficient criteria for informants to understand specific stories as lies. As we consider that the experiment is exciting even though it has a very different theoretical framework from ours, we replicated the investigation to see if, so many years later, there would be differences concerning the results obtained the first time. The results were substantial and analyzed in comparison with the initial hypotheses of Biondo’s work (1994) and in the scope of pragmatic theories, namely Grice, Austin and Searle’ hypothesis, that complements the questions raised by this author.
