Ethics in educational research – What is it for?

In this essay, the current protocolary tendency that has been given to the application of ethics in research is examined, arguing that it not only escapes the fundamentals of the issue, but also it does not contribute to the qualification and development of research in education nor graduate training. Thus, the questioning of the foundations of ethics is resumed, assuming that it, as a human creation, is made in history and cannot be confused with any type of regulation, even though it may inspire norms and laws. Assuming the principle that ethics permeates the entire research process, the challenges posed to the organization and functioning of graduate programs are highlighted, and the need for a profound review of both what is understood by committee of ethics (which should be reorganized as a research regulation committee) and ways of promoting ethics itself, in its epistemological foundation, in graduate programs.
