Abstract

The article aims to describe the meanings of environmental education in a sample of normal school students. The theory of social representations was used to approach the subjectivity of social thought, to access the discursive level of 21 students from a teacher training institution in Mexico City. The results recover social representations in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, identifying various chains of association that make up the representations; environmental education-respect-species-Covid-19, environmental education-care-ecosystems-Covid-19 and environmental education-consumerism-biodiversity-Covid 19. It was concluded that in the students' expressions, care prevails as the main purpose of environmental education, thus shaping the social representation of environmental education for care.
