Abstract

This article proposes an adapted metasurface inserted onto a microstrip antenna. The structure consists of a periodic array of cells arranged in 4 x 4 units in a dielectric material. Being a metamaterial, the proposed metasurface modifies the electromagnetic properties of the medium, influencing the results. Thus, the metasurface is able to provide electromagnetic wave radiation while maintaining the integrity of the antenna feed without the need for adjustments. Furthermore, the microstrip antenna used was designed to operate at 2.45 GHz. Finally, a good agreement can be observed between the simulated results, where the analyzed performance parameters are modified compared to the values of the standard antenna. In addition, the data confirm that the use of the metasurface can alter and improve the bandwidth (LB).
