the relationship between the press and social behavior in the city of Parnaíba-PI in the late 1970s

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to presente how the newspaper Inovação, a mimeographed periodical that emerged in the city of Parnaíba-PI in december 1977 and circulated uninterruptedly in this same city until 1988, from its writing, produced a “journalism of behavioral prescription”, a concept created by us to define what was the scriptural pratice developed by the innovators. This concept was created within and from the perspective of the Social History of the Media, which takes the press as an object of study and not just as a historiographical source for the production of historiographical knowledge. As specific objectives, we analyzed articles and materials contained in the first editions of this journal, which dealt with the behavior of society in Parnaíba, notably the editions published in 1977 and 1978. Therefore, while Inovação assumes here the quality of object of in this study, we also used its material artifacts to composse the documentar corpus, aiming to understand how the traces found on this periodical allow us to understand many elements of the pasto of the Parnaíba society in that historical period. For the theoretical discussion, authors such as Certeau (2008) and his concepto of scriptural economy, Mendonça & Fontes (2006) and his criticisms of the “economic miracle”, Botelho (2001) on the social history of the media, Fico (2019) and his studies about the military dictatorship, among others, were fundamental to help us understand and analyze, in the light of their theories, our object of study.
