Abstract

The article aims to reflect on the female representation of Brazil in the nineteenth century, from the path and reflections of Carlota Carvalho, from Maranhão. The study is part of the field of gender and discussions that permeate the social and school context in a process of human formation of women in the nineteenth century, reflecting on the process of formation of women, reflections, potentialities and transformations that surrounded the life and education of Carlota Carvalho. For this, we present evidence from newspapers analyzed, and their reflections for understanding the study developed, and how female education in nineteenth century Brazil was marked by advances, challenges and significant achievements, highlighting the importance of the role of women as educators and agents of social transformation.
