Um roteiro geoturístico percorrendo pontos no Centro Histórico de Natal se justifica já que ao longo evolução urbana foram usados em seus monumentos e logradouros, rochas extraídas de pedreiras e depósitos dos arredores da cidade. Arenitos ferruginosos, arenitos calcíferos e granitos foram as rochas usadas. Além de contribuir para popularização das Geociências, a geodiversidade destacada no roteiro é útil no ponto de vista turístico, arquitetônico e histórico.
