O objetivo deste trabalho foi otimizar o método de obtenção do índice de vulnerabilidade intrínseca dos aquíferos à poluição (IVIAP) conferindo à variável infiltração e recarga a combinação matricial entre os intervalos de declividade e a densidade relativa de cobertura vegetal. Além da coleta de dados hidrolitológicos das unidades aquíferas, o Sistema de Informações Geográficas (SIG) foi empregado para mapeamento de 34 nascentes, compilação de dados do nível freático de poços tubulares e correção de imagens de satélite e de radar de média-alta resoluções espaciais. Identificou-se o IVIAP como um método alternativo, simples e eficaz na qualificação das vulnerabilidades à poluição de aquíferos, principalmente em regiões onde há carência de informações hidrológicas.
