Avaliar a cobertura vegetal de um município é fundamental para o monitoramento e controle do uso e ocupação do solo. Diante disso o estudo objetiva avaliar a evolução das áreas com cobertura vegetal do município de Guarulhos entre os anos de 1986 e 2022, usando imagens Landsat-8 e Landsat-5 adquiridas nos anos de 1986, 1991, 2013 e 2022. Como metodologia, foi aplicado o Índice de Vegetação por Diferença Normalizada (NVDI) para o cálculo da vegetação. Conclui-se que o município de Guarulhos vem apresentando uma redução na sua área de cobertura vegetal, principalmente por conta da ocupação irregular relacionada à construção do Rodoanel Trecho Norte, justamente as áreas com maiores concentrações de vegetação do município.
