O arcabouço estratigráfico na porção sul da Bacia do Paraná representada pelos estratos do Sistema Devoniano preserva um rico depósito fossilífero, marcado pela presença de uma paleofauna comumente referida como endêmica de organismos bentônicos do Domínio Malvinocáfrico. O presente estudo configura a interpretação de uma nova seção deposicional do Devoniano. Para tanto as novas áreas foram visitadas em campo e descritas nos aspectos faciológicos, icnológicos e tafonômicos. A pesquisa resultou na interpretação das fácies como registro de águas profundas, influenciadas por tempestades e uma situação de estresse ecológico imediatamente anterior a uma crise biótica.
