PHONETIC, PHONOLOGICAL AND MORPHOSYNTAX INTERFERENCE OF EKOTI IN PORTUGUESE IN UTTERANCES PRODUCED BY STUDENTS OF PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL “A” IN NAMPULA CITY-MOZAMBIQUE

Abstract

The article raised the following problem: how do the Mozambican languages (Ekoti) interfere phonetically, phonologically and in the morphosyntax of Portuguese in utterances produced by students of public elementary school “A”, in the city of Nampula – Mozambique? To this end, the general objective was to analyse the phonetic, phonological and morphosyntax interferences of Ekoti in Portuguese, from utterances produced by students of public elementary school “A” in the city of Nampula – Mozambique. Methodologically, the research used a qualitative approach, based on bibliographic research and case study. Data collection was based on 40 statements, observation, semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. The data were analysed using content analysis and triangulation with the consulted literature. Based on the results, it is argued that teachers at public primary school “A” should have training (initial or continued) on the functioning of Mozambican mother tongues to assist the teaching-learning process when the communicative barrier becomes insurmountable in the classroom in relation to the language of instruction.
