Abstract

The influence of physical exercise during the gestational period becomes important to know which are the most indicated exercises, care to be taken and guidelines for practice. Several physiological adjustments in the body of the pregnant are necessary to have an environment favorable to the healthy growth of the fetus, the main one being the endocrine adjustment, since it is from the hormonal changes that the other physiological changes are verified. Pregnant women should be encouraged to perform aerobic, muscular endurance and stretching activities, but should avoid activities that impose a risk of loss of balance and trauma. Another interesting practice is related to exercises that facilitate delivery, especially those that strengthen the pelvic floor, since this muscle is of great importance during this process. In addition, consideration about the existence of contraindications to the practice of physical exercises should be given, paying attention to possible symptoms that the pregnant woman may present. Despite the risks, through proper prescription, hydration, nutrition, temperature care, among others, the practice of physical exercise can and should be performed by pregnant women throughout the gestational period.
