This article analyzes the Econews project, developed by PET-Economics at UFAC, which uses social media to democratize access to economic information. The research problem is how extension projects using social media contribute to democratizing economic knowledge. Objectives were: measure reach and engagement; analyze student competency development; validate effectiveness in democratization. Results show: 568,274 views across 185 videos (2024-2026), with 214% growth in 2025. The project transformed shy presenters into confident communicators and was validated by media coverage (Local Globo TV) and other communications channels. It concludes that Econews is a successful digital extension initiative, capable of expanding access to economic information and strengthening the university’s social role, even under budgetary constraints.
