VIOLÊNCIA DE GÊNERO E MASCULINIDADES: UMA EXPERIÊNCIA DE EXTENSÃO UNIVERSITÁRIA NO ENFRENTAMENTO DA VIOLÊNCIA CONTRA AS MULHERES

Abstract

Gender-based violence against women constitutes a serious public health issue and a persistent violation of human rights, shaped by social, cultural, economic, and historical factors. This article aims to report and analyze a university extension experience developed within the Psychology undergraduate program at Universidade Castelo Branco, in Rio de Janeiro, in the subject Práticas na Ênfase, focused on raising awareness, preventing, and confronting gender-based violence, with special emphasis on discussions about masculinities. The extension activity was carried out during the second semester of 2025 and included theoretical study, the organization of a film debate, and the implementation of discussion circles in a public school, a social assistance service, and a religious institution. Grounded in gender studies, masculinity theories, and public policies addressing violence against women, the experience highlighted the importance of educational and dialogical practices in deconstructing gender stereotypes, recognizing multiple forms of violence, and fostering critical reflection among youth and adults. The findings underscore the role of the university as a key agent of social transformation by integrating teaching, research, and extension, contributing to the training of professionals who are more sensitive, critical, and committed to human rights and gender equity.
