Training in motion: ongoing education and building care in artisanal fishing territories

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the experience of the Advanced Training Course for Primary Health Care Professionals in Artisanal Fishing Territories, linked to the project “Action-training in health and environment in artisanal fishing territories on the Northeastern coast” and integrating research and extension actions of the Reflection and Study Group on Work, Environment, and Health of the Federal University of Paraíba. This is an experience report based on Oscar Jara’s systematization, with a qualitative and participatory approach. The experience involved Primary Health Care professionals from artisanal fishing territories in Paraíba and Pernambuco, with the participation of extension students in the planning and pedagogical tutoring. The results evidence a broadened perspective on the social determination of health, the recognition of the link between work and illness, and the strengthening of territorialized practices, contributing to the reduction of inequities and the strengthening of the SUS (Unified Health System) in the territories of the peoples of the waters.
