Abstract

The exchange is a social practice based on the realization of experiences in spatial contexts different from those experienced daily by the participating subjects. The dialogue of knowledge and the shared construction of knowledge are at the basis of the formative process of the exchanges. This activity is approached from the perspective of popular extension, in a way that favors collaboration and solidarity among the participants. It was in this sense that the Diocesan Caritas of Caicó and the Research and Extension Group of Semi-Arid Territories (SEMIAR), of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), proposed the realization of an exchange with peasant women. This exchange took place between February 18 and 20, 2025 and allowed women from Serra de Santana (RN) to learn about experiences of living with the semi-arid region, agroecology and solidarity economy in Chapada do Apodi (CE). Thus, the aim is to present a qualitative analysis of the exchange extension activity, understood here as a popular extension practice, describing the main results arising from this activity and reflecting on its potential for the training process of peasant women.
