Este artigo tem, como objectivo primeiro, apresentar os dados resultantes de uma investigação sobre as concepções e vivências dos professores do 1º ciclo do ensino básico, quanto à introdução do inglês neste nível de escolaridade, a partir das narrativas dos seus actores. Foram entrevistados onze professores, uma amostra acessível, porque próxima do local de leccionação da 2 ª autora do presente artigo. Foi possível concluir que os docentes abordados, regra geral, consideram não possuir boa preparação para esta abordagem do inglês em idades tão precoces. Referem a indisciplina, o desinteresse e desmotivação dos alunos para esta actividade de enriquecimento e a falta de estruturação e falta de preparação adequada desta nova medida legislativa, como pontos fracos da mesma.
