Abstract

In this text, the topicality of the educational ideas in Paulo Freire’s writings is affirmed in three of his works: Pedagogy of the oppressed; Pedagogy of hope: reliving Pedagogy of the oppressed; and Pedagogy of indignation, which are used as theoretical references to report the experience of having met the educator at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) in 1992. When highlighting the historical meaning in the political scenario of that moment and the present, which have some aspects in common, the conception of “hope” that the educator conceptualizes as an existential and historical imperative of being in the world and an antidote against fatalism is revisited.
