Abstract

The main objective of this article was to critically analyze the citation characteristics in the field of Education, considering its specificities in relation to academic evaluation metrics and bibliometric indexes. The study was based on the particularities of the field, which tends to prioritize books and book chapters over scientific articles. A mixed-methods approach—both quantitative and qualitative—was adopted, grounded in bibliometrics and theoretical discussions on academic evaluation. The results indicate that citation practices in Education challenge conventional metrics and point to the need for more inclusive evaluative models that reflect the diversity of sources cited in the field. This analysis fosters reflections on the challenges and possibilities of adapting academic practices to ongoing changes in evaluation policies, contributing to the debate on the recognition and appreciation of scientific production in the field of Education.
