Abstract

This study aims to narrate the first author’s formative experience in the university extension project “Circus in Contexts” and to analyze its implications for teacher identity formation and pedagogical practice in school Physical Education. It is grounded in the perspective of narrative (auto)biographical research, articulating memories of initial teacher education, experiences within the university triad of teaching, research, and extension, and work in Basic Education, as well as letters written by students as complementary narrative material. The theoretical framework draws on authors from the field of narrative research and on Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy. The results indicate that circus practices produced shifts in the understanding of body, teaching, and teacher education, broadening the pedagogical repertoire and challenging conceptions centered on technique. The students’ narratives reveal learning experiences related to experimentation, cooperation, emotions, and overcoming challenges.
