Abstract

This article presents an exploratory, qualitative approach that investigated 370 students from a municipal school in São Caetano do Sul/SP, and aimed at identify if the student uses the smartphone autonomously in Spanish language classes with a focus on learning the language, analyze how he uses it, and raise his/her ideal vision about this use. The data were collected from an elaborate class activity in Google Forms with alternative questions, Likert scale, and essay questions. The responses were submitted to the content analysis method and cataloged in semantic fields. The research revealed that student makes autonomous use of the smartphone and to him/her this use seems to be exactly what he/her already does, in short, consulting dictionaries and translators, photographing the slate and later to copying information in the notebook and sharing them with the friends.
