Pedagogical work in Polytechnic Higher Education in Portugal: an analysis from the Polytechnic Institutes

Abstract

Polytechnic Higher Education (PHE) in Portugal is an educational option that includes training in Pre-service teacher education, Master’s and Doctoral courses in various areas. In this context, the purpose of this study was to analyze and characterize the pedagogical work carried out in PHE in Portugal, considering the perspectives conceived and implemented in the work of teachers at Polytechnic Institutes. This is an exploratory and descriptive study, which followed a qualitative and quantitative approach and was produced through document analysis, bibliographical and field research, involving 173 teachers. It is structured with a review of the literature dealing with the organization and functioning of the PHE and pedagogical work as a category present in the PHE and a description of the results achieved accompanied by discussions. It was noticed that the pedagogical work of the PHE is personalized as a dialectical movement that integrates spaces and times, encompassing the individual actions of teachers demarcated by the institutional pedagogical project.
