Abstract

This work presents the characteristics of martensitic and bainitic high strength forged steels (AHSS) according to their chemical composition and resulting characteristics in the microstructure and the final mechanical strength of the component. Chemical composition is very important because of the quantities of alloying elements such as carbon, molybdenum, manganese, chromium, boron, nickel and niobium. Obviously in different amounts in each of the steels cited, they result in the proper microstructure for the intended component as well as the mechanical strength. The alloying elements establish the transformation ranges of the microstructures, resulting in mechanical strengths of up to 1200 MPa for bainitic steels and 1700 MPa for martensitic steels.
