ESTUDO E AVALIAÇÃO DE ADITIVOS UMECTANTES E DISPERSANTES NAS PROPRIEDADES REOLÓGICAS DO CONCENTRADO DE PIGMENTO PR 122 A BASE SOLVENTE
Abstract
Given the new technologies emerging in the paint universe, it is possible to develop projects that improve the quality of products for the end customer. Pigmented concentrates, which are inks with high pigment concentration, are mainly present in mixing systems and need to be handled easily. It was found in a company, a concentrated pink with thixotropic properties, which shows that customers have difficulty in weighing this pigment. Thus, the present work aimed to find an additive that can reduce or cease the thixotropy of the concentrate, obtaining a more fluid final product. Several small scale additives were tested using the Red Devil equipment. Of the additives tested, only 5 left the test concentrate more fluid than the standard concentrate. Colorimetric, dyeing and toning strength tests, and accelerated greenhouse stability tests were performed, as well as nitrocellulose and polyurethane inks, which are the lines that the pink concentrate is used in, and observed gloss and flotation. Two better performing additives were obtained. Finally, formulas 6C (using additive 6) and 25B (using additive 25) were chosen to be produced in a laboratory mill, and all tests were performed again. Although the cost of formula 25B increased by approximately 16%, this was the best formulation obtained with the most satisfactory results.
