Abstract

Abstract: The comminution process is divided in two stages, crushing and grinding. The crushing stage was understood by the fragmentation of the material above 25 mm, but nowadays the crushers had presented efficiency in comminution of more final granulornetries. The crushers are part of the first stage of comminution process, where occurs material size reduction up to 8:1. The realization of a study and a control of this fragmentation, make it possible to improve the efficiency of the techniques used to obtain the granulometry of the desired material. This research performs a resizing of the cooperative of the small miners in the municipality of Pedra lavrada PB (COOMIPEL) crushing equipments. The calculations were determined from the method developed by the metso manufacturer, that it is done with the help of curves and operation tables together with the Taggart criterion. The study identified that the primary jaw crusher operates at a ratio of 2:1, since that it was working in a ineficient way it was allowed to suggest an adjustment of this machine by a reduction ration (R) of 5:1 for crusher optimizion. But in the rebriter is necessary an adjust in the dimensions of the discharge port, for an APA = 18,0 mm and an APF = 6,0 mm, and this adjust wil produce a material with 42% of its granulometry ≤ 4,0 mm. These changes in equipment allow us to suggest changes in the flowchart of the COMIPEL comminution process.
