Abstract

In view of its wide and diversified applicability, the lean thinking applied to civil construction, known as lean construction, has the potential to generate positive impacts on companies in the construction industry. This article describes a systematic review of the literature, whose objective was to identify the main lean construction practices and tools adopted in the Brazilian construction industry, analyzing their impacts, benefits and knowledge gaps on this topic. The results point to increased productivity and waste elimination as the greatest benefits and enable Brazilian construction companies to learn about lean construction practices and tools that are currently being adopted in the market, thereby providing qualification and application in their projects. It was observed that national research uses the case study method, with a focus on the construction phase, needing to expand to the pre and post-construction phases. There was an absence of effective actions to eliminate barriers and practices involving human issues, a low volume of publications on lean construction in the Brazilian construction industry, where they are distributed in a dispersed way in the literature, which makes a systemic view difficult of the topic, bringing the opportunity for future research in the area.
