Abstract

The research approached the physical-chemical stabilization of soil-cement with the purpose of improving the resistance to penetration in the soil to be applied as a base for paving highways in São Luís - MA. Its general objective was to quantitatively analyze the results of laboratory tests of mechanical characterization of mixtures of soil with cement. The specific thing was to carry out compaction tests, resistance to simple compression of soil-cement and California Support Index (ISC) with 3%, 5% and 7% of cement content with 6 specimens for each content using cement of Class Resistance 32 MPa. In Maranhão, the bases are mostly of lateritic soil with a predominance of boulders that provide independence to the support with high rates. Despite the lateritic soil appearing in great quantity in the State, the soil with a greater presence of boulders is a disadvantage. Environmental licensing and the value for exploiting deposits often make the acquisition of the material unfeasible. The work sought to discover which content provided the best performance in stabilizing the lateritic soil with cement. The results for 5% and 7% generated high values and can be used as a basis. However, cement-enhanced soil can only be applied as a sub-base.
