Abstract

ABSTRACT

The rivers of Brazil are experiencing serious water problems resulting from the misuse of water, due to the various activities developed in the surroundings and in the hydrographic basin where they are located. In this work, the objective was to carry out a critical analysis of the water quality of Ribeirão Jacutinga (PR), a tributary of the Tibagi River, in two periods, in the stretches where the classification of the stream was changed from class 2 to 3, according to CONAMA Resolution No. 357, 2005. Water quality data were obtained from Instituto Águas do Paraná (AGUASPARANA) at the sampling points Chácara Ana Cláudia and Ibiporã Water Treatment Station, both in the Municipality of Ibiporã (PR), for the period 1991 to 2019. The parameters analyzed were: dissolved oxygen, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, biochemical oxygen demand, temperature, pH and turbidity. The analysis of water quality data showed an increase in turbidity with an increase in water flow, causing an increase in sediment in the stream bed. Even though Ribeirão Jacutinga has gone through two processes of framing the course of its waters, until now there has been no action to intervene in increasing turbidity when there is an increase in flow. With the change in the framework, changing from class 2 to class 3, with the release of a less restrictive grant, there have been no actions that promote the recovery of riparian forest or even the elaboration of projects that prevent erosion of the riverbank margins. Thus, there will be continued deterioration of water quality in Ribeirão Jacutinga.
