Abstract

The disorderly growth of cities can lead to urban flooding, therefore, the land occupation and impermeabilization is directly linked to this problem. So, the use of rainwater is proposed in already built areas, with the purpose of solving or minimizing the hydrological inconveniences of floods, which causes socioeconomic and environmental damage. The present study proposes the use of rainwater in one of the main districts of the Belem city, state of Pará, the Reduto, located in the port region of the city, where, currently, several types of establishments and services are installed. For that, the permeable and impermeable covered areas were studied and identified by using the QGIS software and the Google Earth Pro satellite images. Then, the hydrological variables were obtained and the Rational Method was applied to estimate the runoff flow, before and after the use of rainwater. It is possible to use the method, because the contributing area has less than 2 km². In addition to that, ABNT NBR 15527 from 2007 was used to calculate the volume of usable rainwater. The result obtained with the study was satisfactory, reaching a reduction of almost 20% in the total flow and it can reach up to 45%, when considering the use of all roofs in the study area, corroborating to a significant impact on rainwater directly sent to microdrainage devices and, consequently, the reduction of urban flood events.
