Abstract

Streams water quality is a reflection of the sanitary conditions of its surrounding population. Improper insertion of pollutants into urban streams may be harmful to the environmental balances. In this context, the present study had the aim of evaluating the water quality of the Olarias stream, situated in the urban area of the Ponta Grossa – PR, by superficial water analysis from sequential sampling points. Were evaluated the following quality parameters: heterotrophic bacteria, total and fecal coliforms, BOD, COD, total phosphorus, nitrate, ammoniacal nitrogen, DO, pH, total sulfate, TS, TFS, TVS, temperature, and turbidity. The data obtained were correlated with both Resolution CONAMA 357/2005 and the Water Quality Index (WQI). The conclusion reached was not only the occurrence of pollution in the urban stream by domestic effluents, this way harming its classification, but also evidence of agricultural and/or industrial contamination.
