Abstract

Ponta Grossa city, located in the state of Paraná, is the fourth largest in number of inhabitants and is going through an accelerated growth process in industrial area and new residential projects. In recent years, there has been a trend towards verticalization of residential buildings, especially in the central area. This kind of construction depends on the knowledge of the subsoil where it will be built, of its geological, geotechnical and geomorphological characteristics in order to establish the most appropriate type and parameters for dimensioning the foundations. The main goal of this work is the construction of a geological-geotechnical map of Ponta Grossa city, elaborated from information collected in penetration tests carried out by partner companies of the Civil Engineering department of the State University of Ponta Grossa. The studied region has a predominantly residual soil from three distinct geological formations of sedimentary rocks from the Paraná and Itararé Groups. Another objective is to compare the information from the penetration tests reports and the characterization of the soils carried out in the laboratory. The results obtained were satisfactory and encourage the continuation of the construction process of geological-geotechnical map. It was also verified that the soil classification described in the SPT reports is, in most cases, compatible with that obtained in the laboratory. Finally, it is expected that this map can be used as a complement to regional studies of the substrate, and as an auxiliary tool in the search for solutions to the geotechnical challenges of the region.
