EVALUATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS AND IMPACTS AND PROPOSALS FOR SUSTAINABLE ACTIONS THROUGH CLEANER PRODUCTION IN A SWINE SLAUGHTERING AGROINDUSTRY IN THE SOUTH REGION OF BRAZIL
Abstract
Food industries have great environmental and social responsibility, due to large-scale production and high polluting potential. With the growing increase in the demand for food, resulting from the population increase, there were consequences in the industrial sector that contributed to the significant increase in the consumption of water, energy, raw materials and consequent pollution. Given the above, this study focused on identifying the environmental aspects and impacts of a swine slaughtering agroindustry located in southern Brazil. For the diagnosis of the sectors of greatest magnitude and environmental impact, a proposal for a Leopold Matrix was drawn up considering the consumption of water, energy and solid waste generation in a swine slaughtering agroindustry, and for the identification of the most problematic impact index was elaborated the GUT Matrix. The study showed that the most impacting sector and index were, respectively, the Swine Slaughter sector and the water consumption indicator, and they propose sustainable mitigation actions for these impacts.
