Abstract

This paper describes importance of manufacturing experimental prototypes applying different Additive Manufacturing (AM) techniques for development of complex and innovative vehicle safety systems within Systems & Requirements Engineering (SRE) processes. The automotive industry is well aware of importance currently given to vehicle safety systems, as technological advances in its products and new vehicle projects, externally and internally, there are several systems that need updates, but technical development is costly, in time and cost as applied traditional processes of building experimental prototypes. Among vehicle safety systems, seat belts stand out in terms of operational and manufacturing improvements. This research presents the development of a new part to compose the vehicle seat belt system through construction of experimental prototypes in MA using ESR. The results obtained with manufacture of new experimental prototypes have innovated way to design and develop new components in vehicle safety industry.
