Abstract

During the construction of buildings and in the process of manufacturing ceramics, there is a large generation of waste that is discarded in landfills or in an irregular and clandestine way in the environment, which can generate great environmental impacts. In view of this, the recycling and reuse of ceramic waste are sustainable and technological practices that can be used to produce new products. In this way, this research evaluated the performance of mortars produced with the incorporation of red ceramic residues in partial replacement of the natural fine aggregate, in contents of 15% and 30%, compared to the reference, of 0%. The results showed that the increase in the substitution content provided a reduction in the void ratio and water absorption of the mortars and a gain in compressive strength. Therefore, it was concluded that the replacement can be performed without causing damage to the mechanical performance of the mortars, making it viable to reuse ceramic waste as a sustainable alternative.
