BACILLUS SUBTILIS UMA ADIÇÃO INCOMUM COM BENEFÍCIOS INESPERADOS AO CONCRETO
Abstract
The bacterium Bacillus subtilis can be used as an alternative medium for making bioconcrete, as it has similar characteristics to the Bacillus pseudofirmus studied by other researchers. It is worth noting that the bacterium Bacillus subtilis can be found in Brazilian territory and that it has the ability to precipitate calcium carbonate crystals (CaCO3), which by biodeposition fill the pores and cracks in cementitious materials. Thus, the objective of this article is to carry out a bibliographic survey on the behavior of the bacterium Bacillus subtilis in the addition of concrete, verifying whether it has similar or even superior characteristics to materials studied by other authors in countries with different temperatures and materials. To carry out this study, a theoretical survey was carried out based on indirect documentation. It is noted that the addition of bacteria to concrete has benefits for engineering, since it can eliminate crack repairs due to the calcite precipitation process (crystalline form of CaCO3), which will also reduce infiltration and loss of load capacity, increasing the lifespan of buildings.
