CHARACTERIZATION OF CALCIUM HYDROXIDE INDUSTRIAL WASTE FOR USE IN GEOTECHNICAL WORKS
Abstract
The production of solid waste (RS) in Brazil has gradually increased due to different factors, as a result it has become one of the main environmental problems of society in the 21st century. In this theme, it became necessary to give a correct destination to these residues. In view of this, this study sought to evaluate the potential for application of the calcium hydroxide by-product in geotechnical works. Therefore, the residue in question was characterized according to granulometry, x-ray fluorescence spectrometry and gravimetric analysis. The granulometry results showed that the residue in question can be used as a filler in asphalt mixtures. The chemical and mineralogical characterization indicated a high content of calcium oxide. Regarding the thermal analysis of the material, there was low mass loss at the working temperatures of asphalt mixtures. Therefore, considering technical and environmental aspects, the results of this research show the high potential for the use of calcium hydroxide as a material applicable in road works.
