Abstract

Characterize and analyze rainfall in the municipality of Amparo de São Francisco, verifying its climatic variability, the extreme events of drought and rain being effected with the application of the rainfall anomaly index under the analysis of the 56-year period (1963 to 2019). Monthly and annual rainfall data provided by the Northeast Development Superintendence and the Agricultural Development Company of Sergipe between 1963 and 2019 were used. The arithmetic mean of monthly rainfall data was calculated to represent the general rainfall of the study area. To obtain the results, the Rain Anomaly Index was used due to its recurrent use in Northeast Brazil and because it requires only precipitation as a climatic data, in which it reaffirmed its use by using only precipitation data and because it is possible to assess the intensity of extreme events in the Northeast. 36 years observed, that is, 63.2% of the occurrences are dry and/or intense moderate dry; 21 years observed, that is, 36.8% of the occurrences are humid or moderately humid or extremely humid. 2018 registered the lowest total annual precipitation with 498.8 mm; 1966 registered the highest total annual rainfall with 3032.8 mm. The IAC is an effective index for determining the local rainfall index.
