Abstract

The use of computational tools to support machine design can be very suitable both in real problems and in teaching. Therefore, this work aims to implement a graphic interface to shaft design using the GUIDE environment of MATLAB. The interface can be used to speed up the decision making of real projects and to introduce the theory of shaft design in classroom. The interface has its calculation routine based in a textbook of machine design. Besides having an efficient and simple interface, the developed software has other utilities such as table and graphic exportation. Comparisons with manual calculus showed a good accuracy of the implemented software.
