Abstract

Welding can be characterized as a process of joining two metal parts through the use of a heat source, with or without the application of pressure. In view of this procedure, welding is the result. Visual inspection is a test widely used in the scope of welding applications, with the objective of verifying the conditions and quality in the union of parts that make up the metallic structure. It is worth noting that this is a non-destructive test that is easy to perform and has low operating costs, since it does not require special equipment. This work has as general objective to present the application techniques in the welding process in metallic structures. As well as analyzing the main variables around the process, their terminologies, symbologies and main discontinuities caused, making use of the visual inspection test in order to verify such variables. In order to carry out this study, we sought to use an exploratory research with the objective of raising and providing more technical-professional information for the mechanical engineering sector, regarding the welding of metallic elements, on the detection of flaws in the process of welding, diagnosed by the visual inspection test method. Finally, it became clear and evident that the visual inspection test must be a technique used before any other test, so that it can take better advantage of its quality level. Despite being a low-cost process, its efficiency is quite significant in the diagnosis of faults in welded joints.
