EVALUATION OF TPS (TOTAL PARTICLES IN SUSPENSION) EMISSIONS IN GRAIN PROCESSING UNITS IN THE CASCAVEL/PR REGION
Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the monitoring of Total Suspended Particulate (TPS) emissions from four grain processing industries located in the region of Cascavel/PR, comparing with the emission standards required by the current legislation and analyzing the control measures of atmospheric emissions applied in these projects. For this purpose, the Environmental Management System (SGA) and the SGA-DEA (Atmospheric Emissions Declaration) self-monitoring database for atmospheric emissions were consulted. The Environmental Information System/Inspection and Licensing System (SIASFL) also verified the existence of a history of complaints made by neighboring populations regarding nuisances generated by atmospheric emissions during the period of monitoring evaluated. In addition, a literature review was carried out regarding control measures to mitigate particulate emissions. It was found that all monitoring carried out between 2019 and 2021 met the emission standard stipulated in current legislation. However, there was a history of complaints in two of the four industries analyzed. In addition, it was observed that all industries met the containment measures required in Resolution SEMA n° 024/2019, except industries A and D. In view of the results obtained, it is concluded that compliance with the TPS emission standards stipulated in legislation may not be sufficient to guarantee the well-being and health of populations neighboring grain processing units, requiring the application (or revision) of the current efficient and well-dimensioned atmospheric emission control measures associated with a good program of maintenance and operation.
