Abstract

The main purpose of this case study was to evaluate the most appropriate technique for treating effluents from the cleaning of industrial mills from a flexographic ink company. To achieve the proposed objective, laboratory tests were carried out to define the best option of coagulant, flocculant and their ideal dosages. To evaluate these factors, the height of sludge formed, the filterability of the flocs and the clarification of the filtrate were used as indicators. The ideal dosages of reagents obtained in the laboratory were 90 g.L-1 of aluminum sulfate as coagulant; and 1 g.L-1 of anionic polymer as flocculant. After simple filtration, a second filtration with activated carbon was necessary to eliminate residual color from the treated effluent. With this, it was possible to define an efficient procedure for treating the effluent. With the project, a monthly cost reduction of R$291.80 is calculated, achieving project payback in a period of 10.5 months.
