Abstract

In the management of urban solid waste, composting is an alternative for the recycling of organic waste. Composting is characterized as a low-cost tool and has as its main objective the conversion of organic waste into an organic fertilizer rich in micro and macronutrients. The objective of the present work was to elaborate a compost bin. Organic waste was used, like food leftovers, tanned bovine manure, and worms to accelerate the decomposition process. The experimental unit (compost bin) was made from a gallon of water. From the materials used, good results of solid and liquid organic fertilizer (slurry) formation were achieved. In addition, the pH of the experiment was monitored. Composting produces the fertilizer that is essential for the soil to improve its structure and fertility, as well as providing the crops with extraordinary vigor and increased productivity.
