Abstract

ABSTRACT: The objective was to evaluate how buildings made of metallic structures can contribute to environmental sustainability based on a case study of a Faculty of Civil Engineering in Montes Claros. Thus, the research is integrated into the descriptive typology, providing greater familiarity with the problem and in relation to the method adopted in the research generating this work, we opted for a case study. The investigation covered the Faculdade Prominas, where it was possible to monitor the work to expand the educational structure, which included the construction of a two-story building and the work on the auditorium. It was also possible to question some students from the civil engineering course about their understanding of sustainability. Thus, considering the analyses, it can be said that the indicator that currently contributes most to the sustainable considerations of the location under analysis are the items environmental load, environmental comfort, socioeconomic experiences and sustainable use and innovation, as they all equated to a greater ratio for a rating greater than C, that is, a weight of 50% above what is considered common. This work showed that the sustainability of the metallic structure will only be possible taking into account the life cycle of the steel, which, in turn, is 100% reusable. If you do not follow this standard, it will have nothing to do with the concept of sustainability.
