IMPACTS OF POLLUTANTS RESULTING FROM BURNS ON HUMAN HEALTH
Abstract
This article aimed to carry out a survey on the impacts of pollutants resulting from fires on health in Brazil, emphasizing the most affected regions, such as the North region of the country. We sought to discuss the practice of burning and its effects on air quality; the impacts of pollutants on human health and the main diseases resulting from pollutants resulting from fires, as well as measures to reduce fires supported by Brazilian environmental legislation. The methodology used was based on a descriptive qualitative research, through the theoretical survey of Brazilian environmental legislation, books and articles published in the DATASUS databases published by the Ministry of Health, on the INPE platform and other government websites, aiming to reach answers for the proposed objectives. The review showed the negative health effects resulting from exposure to pollutants from fires, which cause or worsen non-communicable cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, increase the rate of hospitalization of children under 5 years of age, in addition to compromising the health of the elderly and susceptible to the emergence of these diseases and increases the premature mortality rate in people aged between 30 and 69 years. Therefore, there is a need to implement more effective measures to reduce fires and their effects on human health.
