EVALUATION OF A MIXTURE OF CLAY AND SANDY SOIL IN THE COUNTRYSIDE OF MATO GROSSO DO SUL INTENDED FOR THE MANUFACTURING OF SOIL-CEMENT

Abstract

The growing demand for ecological constructions materials generates a need for increasingly in-depth research and knowledge on the subject. With the desire to reduce environmental impacts, soil-cement bricks, or ecological bricks, gained visibility due to the advantages associated with the no burning process and the possibility of using waste into their composition. To produce this type of brick, soil, cement, and water are used, with soil being the most consumed item in the mixture. From this, the need arises to analyze the soils and the mixtures from them, to check their chemical, physical and granulometric characteristics. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the possibility of using a mixture of soils: clayey and sandy (in the proportion of 1x7, respectively), from the interior of Mato Grosso do Sul, for subsequent production of soil-cement bricks. The results showed that the soil resulting from the, mixture is still essentially clayey, with an organic matter content of 1,16% and a moisture content of 11,32%, highlighting the need to measure the amount of water to be added to improve the mechanical results and reduce the amount of voids that can be formed in the bricks.
