Abstract

This article, the result of a master's degree research project, aims to investigate women's participation in the municipal public sector union movement in Ceará, focusing on gender equality policies and the development of the Federation of Municipal Public Service Workers of the State of Ceará (FETAMCE) and its grassroots unions. To this end, qualitative and bibliographic research and semi-structured interviews were used as methodological procedures. The results indicate that women's participation in public service unionism in Ceará is significant and transformative. The union leaders interviewed shared challenges and achievements, revealing how they balance activism with personal and family responsibilities. Furthermore, they demonstrated mobilization and negotiation skills that have driven significant achievements. The research also highlights the need for social policies to support women workers.
