This article sought to problematize the social and gender relations that materialize in the
memory of cities. We sought to answer the following question: How does the virtual
exhibition “Women who are on the map”, produced by the Museu Antropológico Diretor
Pestana (MADP), enable some reflection upon the influences of social and gender relations in
the process that approves the names given to the streets in Ijuí/RS? From the Foucauldian discourse analysis, the toponymic discourse was thought as a consolidator of collective memory in the city of Ijuí, considering social and gender relations. To achieve such aim, we analyzed the data produced by MADP, which currently constitute the virtual exhibition.
