Abstract

This research aims to identify a possible symbolic gender inequality in Goiânia (GO) from the toponymies of the city’s public spaces, considering that there are ideological charges in the signs that make up urban life and space. As a result, the streets that pay homage to male and female characters were quantitatively measured in order to see how they are represented. It is based on theoretical texts from Geography, Sociology and Linguistics. While the numerotoponyms correspond to approximately 59% of the public in Goiás, fortuitous 23% of its streets talk about people. Only 5,16% of these paths evoke women. This is an investigation into how women are symbolically represented on the streets, addressing the excluding female condition in urban everyday life.
