The LGBTI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite, Transsexual, Intersex) population has been identified as being more prone to suicide in scientific literature. With this in mind, this research aims to understand the experience of LGBTI+ people who have attempted suicide, from Martin Heidegger's phenomenological-hermeneutic perspective. People who had attempted suicide and survived were interviewed. The analysis was inspired by the comprehensive hermeneutic circle. The narratives showed experiences of suffering, violence, existence without belonging and killing oneself as a possibility of no longer inhabiting this world. It is hoped that the results will contribute to broadening the discussion on the mental health of the LGBTI+ population in Brazilian society.
